New Beginnings

The next chapter of my life

One of the most commonly known (and frustrating) aspects of ADHD is that those with ADHD are experts at starting projects but rarely (never?) finish them. As a neurodivergent person, my many attempts at creating an online writing portfolio can attest to this trait. I start, with so much enthusiasm and so many ideas, but that soon fades. The many ideas begin to form in my brain all at once like a group of children getting excited to go to the park, racing to get to the doors all at once, and ending up tripping over each other on the way out, falling flat on the ground before they reach the door. This scenario is just like the ideas in my head racing to get to my fingertips, but falling all over each other before they get onto my screen. The jumble of fallen ideas begin to then blend together in ways that feel impossible to disentangle.

But they only feel impossible to disentangle. With a little bit of work and some organizational tools, they can be separated out from each other, organized neatly (Insha’Allah!) and shared with you, the reader.

I hope to use this platform to do just that. To organize my thoughts on a number of things related to liberation and learning, through my own personal lens and through the lens of my lived experience combined with my education – which, I guess, is all the lenses I can use.

My nana (maternal grandfather), Allah yarham, was a learned man, but always called himself a student. Inspired by him in more ways than one, I too like to consider myself a perpetual student of life. This means that I recognize that I am always learning (my latest obsession is history, especially ancient South Asian history). This also means I will try to approach my work, my writing with humility.

So…here’s to yet another attempt at regular writing. I hope this time is the charm…Insha’Allah.
